How is the Speaking Test structured?

Accepted Answer

Eight tasks in about 15 to 20 minutes. Each task has a fixed prep time (30 to 60 seconds) followed by a fixed response time (60 to 90 seconds). Tasks include giving advice, talking about a personal experience, describing a scene, making predictions, comparing options, dealing with difficult situations, expressing opinions, and describing an unusual scene.

Does it record my voice on this site?

Not yet. The runner replicates the real prep-and-record timing so you can rehearse out loud against the clock. You can record yourself with a phone or laptop voice memo and play back to self-evaluate. Built-in recording and AI scoring is on the roadmap.

Will my accent hurt my score?

Accepted Answer

No, as long as you're intelligible. CELPIP raters score on content, vocabulary, listenability, and task fulfillment. Strong regional accents are fine. What hurts scores is long pauses, restarts, and running out of things to say before the timer ends.

Question 4

How should I use the 30 second prep window?

Accepted Answer

Pick a position fast, then list three concrete supporting points. Do not write full sentences. Most candidates waste prep time deliberating between options. The option you commit to in the first 5 seconds is usually fine; spend the remaining 25 seconds on the substance of your answer.
