Is a CELPIP score the same as a CLB level?

Accepted Answer

Effectively yes. CELPIP-General is reported on the same 1–12 scale as the Canadian Language Benchmarks, so a CELPIP level 9 corresponds to CLB 9. Scores below 4 are reported as 'M' (minimal) and don't map to a usable CLB level for immigration.

Why does my eligibility use the lowest of my four scores?

Most Canadian immigration and citizenship programs set a minimum CLB that you must meet in every ability — Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Your weakest skill therefore decides which programs you qualify for, which is why the calculator highlights your minimum CLB.

How are CRS language points calculated?

Express Entry awards Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points per ability based on your CLB level, and the totals differ depending on whether you have an accompanying spouse or partner. This calculator uses the published IRCC per-ability point grids. It covers first-official-language core points only — your real CRS score also includes age, education, work experience, and other factors.

Is this an official IRCC tool?

No. This is an independent estimator from CELPrep to help you plan. Official CELPIP scores come only from Paragon Testing Enterprises, and your official CRS score is calculated by IRCC. Always confirm requirements on canada.ca before making decisions.
