CELPIP. What is it, and when do I need to take one?

CELPIP stands for Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program. It is a computer-delivered English test owned and administered by Paragon Testing Enterprises. The General version covers four skills in one sitting (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) and reports results on the CLB (Canadian Language Benchmarks) scale, 1 through 12. IRCC accepts CELPIP results for permanent residency and citizenship applications, and several regulatory bodies in healthcare, law, and engineering accept it for licensing. If your application requires proof of English proficiency, CELPIP is one of the two main options alongside IELTS General.

Which CLB band should be my target?

Your target depends on the program you're applying to. Express Entry's Federal Skilled Worker stream sets the floor at CLB 7 across all four skills, but CRS scoring rewards higher bands heavily. Most competitive profiles aim for CLB 9 or 10. Citizenship applications require CLB 4 in Listening and Speaking only. PNP streams vary. Check the specific province's requirements. If you're not sure, take a Mock first and compare the result against your program's threshold.

You get full-length Mocks that follow the published test format and timing, and that is the whole product. We do not sell courses, tutoring, or strategy guides. CELPrep is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Paragon Testing Enterprises, the organization that owns and administers the official CELPIP exam.

Where does your practice content come from?

Every Mock, question, prompt, and audio script on CELPrep is written from scratch by our own team. We do not reuse, copy, or distribute Paragon's secured CELPIP test material. Our content is modelled on the publicly available CELPIP-General test specifications that Paragon publishes (task types, question counts, time limits, scoring criteria), plus general English-language assessment principles. Topics, characters, and scenarios are entirely our own invention.

How close are your Mocks to the actual test day experience?

Same task types, same question counts per part, same time limits, same one-shot audio behavior for Listening, same prep-and-record cadence for Speaking. We design every practice to follow the CELPIP pattern so test day feels familiar. We do not reuse Paragon's secured material.

Use whatever is most helpful to you, and be strategic about it. If you want quality mock exams at low cost, we offer a bunch with a budget subscription. One month is usually enough to drill the test format and get comfortable with the timing before you book.

How are my answers scored?

Listening and Reading score automatically the moment you submit, with per-question explanations so you can see where you went wrong. Writing and Speaking scoring is coming soon. Official CELPIP scores come only from Paragon.

When am I ready to book the real exam?

Less than people assume, if you study correctly. A common pattern: one Mock to baseline, then 10 to 20 hours focused on whichever component scored lowest, then a second Mock to confirm progress before booking. Spaced daily practice on real test tasks beats long passive review sessions. The constraint on test day is timing, not knowledge.

Where do my recordings and essays end up?

Accepted Answer

Stored on your account so you can review past attempts and so we can score them. Not sold, not shared with third parties, not used to train external models. Delete your account from settings and your submissions go with it.
